Beauty 101 – Concealer!

Hi my lovelies,

Today’s post is hopefully part one of a new segment for this blog, where I’ll talk about tips and tricks and how to get the best from your products! I’ve been thinking about this for a while but didn’t know where to start, but after speaking with my friend from Into the Gloss I realised that Concealer is something that people either have spot on or have no clue what to do! So this post is all about concealer and what to do with it! (P.S. What do you guys think of the name Beauty 101?)

Now I’ll admit that I used to think that concealer was just something you used to hide spots on your face but as I’ve got older and more informed (and better with make-up) I now know that concealer is so versatile and has so many uses!

What’s the best type of concealer for you?

Different skin types and concerns will need different types of concealer,so which is best for you?

Mani of the Week: Pretty in Pink ft Essie!

Hi my lovelies,

We’re back after a loooong time for another Mani of the Week post! It’s been a super long time since I posted one of these, partly because my nails needed a serious rest from all the polish, and  then exam and work stress came along and I bit all of my lovely nails off! A real bad habit I know, but we all have our vices!

Now it’s spring, and I’m feeling great (apart from having serious laryngitis) so I decided to go bright and colourful for my nails this time around! 20160424_141031

I used my regular Rimmel base coat, and then a new shade I picked up from my local TK Maxx: The Lace Is On from Essie.

Beauty Top 5: Clinique!

Hi my lovelies,

As you’re probably aware of by now, Clinique is my favourite beauty brand, in that it’s a great all-rounder that has a brilliant skincare and makeup range too! This post was something I’ve been thinking about doing for a while, and it took a big think to whittle this down to just 5 products for this list as there are so many that I love!

Anyway, in no particular order, these are my Clinique beauty top 5!

Review: Clinique Chubby Stick Highlight! Get that glow!

Hi my lovelies,

So I promised when I bought this highlighter (around 4 weeks ago now, oops!) that I’d definitely do a review of it, so here we are! I bought one of the Clinique Chubby Stick highlighters when I was last in Manchester (see my Manchester haul here!), and I’ve now had the opportunity to fully test it out, so here are the results!

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know by now that I’m a huuuuge fan of Clinique as a brand, both their skincare and makeup is generally really good, so I was pretty excited to try this! Getting that fresh faced, luminous glow is really in right now, and while I normally go for a powder highlighter, I needed to see what Clinique had to offer me and the sales girl said I should try this!
image

Clinique’s Chubby Stick highlight is a cream based, pink toned highlighter stick. There’s only one shade at the moment, which is 01 Hefty Highlight, so hopefully they’ll bring out more. The packaging looks like Clinique’s other lip, eye and cheek chubby sticks, with silver accents and the colour of the product on the main part of the stick, which I really like. It means if you have multiple colours of the same item, they’re easy to separate!

Ease of use

In my opinion, it’s super easy to use as it’s in a flat (ish) ended stick form, you can literally just draw it on where you want the highlight, and then blend out as much as you want to. I like the fact that the product twists up from the bottom too, like Clinique’s other chubby stick products.

Blendability and Texture

I absolutely adore the way this blends out on my skin. You can put just a little on and it blends out so well, as it’s a cream highlighter, to get as much or as little glow as you want to have! Depending on how much product you apply, and how much you blend it out, you can get anything from a really gentle satin glow, to full on glowing goddess shimmer, which you might not be able to do with a powder highlighter. The texture is really creamy when applying, but be careful not to apply too much product, as it can feel a little chalky later on in the day if you have a lot on.

Colour/Glow payoff

image

This highlighter is really pretty and pink toned, which works really well for me, as I’m quite pale. When applied, it looks pretty and natural with the tiniest bit of glitter that really catches the light. I’m a bit disappointed with Clinique for only releasing one highlight colour and one contour colour, as they obviously aren’t going to suit all skin tones. That being said, if you do have a darker skin tone, you can blend this down into a really iridescent shimmer, with more of a natural glow than a pinky colour. For me though, it suits pretty well. I’m really happy with the buildability of this, as you can be really subtle or go all out with as much or as little product as you like.

Longevity

image

These are a cream formula, so they’re built to last. My normal face makeup routine is Primer (if i can be bothered and/or have time) Foundation, Concealer, Setting Powder (if i’m out all day) blush and then i’ll highlight. I’m a little pale and my face is a tad round for contour, so I only do that on a special occasion. If I use my primer and setting powder, this lasts absolutely ages! I can go out in the morning, do a full day of work, and come home and still have that radiant glow from this highlighter! Using primer and some sort of setting agent helps a lot with longevity, but I tried this with just foundation and it still lasted a long time. Also, being a cream highlighter, there won’t be any fallout that you can sometimes get with powder formulations.

Value for money

The Chubby Stick highlight (and the contour) stick cost £19 each online or at any Clinique counter. For the money, you get such a lot of product that is definitely going to last you a long time, even if you use it on a regular basis. Because you only need to use a little and blend with your fingers to get a stunning natural glow, you’ll use less product, too!

What’s the verdict?

I really like this highlighter, the pink tone suits me as a colour and I love the formulation! I don’t think I’ve  loved a highlighter more than this one, although I’m still wanting to try the Becca shimmering skin perfector, and the TheBalm Cindy-Lou Manizer as they’ve had really good reviews!

Would I repurchase?

Yes, definitely. Although it may be a looooooong timer before I run out of this one!

Overall rating: 5/5 for the actual product, 1/5 for colour choices.

So that was my review of the Clinique Chubby Stick Highlight stick! Have any of you lovely people tried this and/or the contour stick? What did you think? Are there any other highlighters that you’d most definitely recommend? Let me know in the comments!

Interested in trying this? You can check it out on the Clinique website, or any department store with a Clinique counter. Go on, have a swatch, and see what you think of it, too!

Give this post a like and a share if you enjoyed it! Your comments are important to me so let me know if there is anything you’d like to see from me in the future and I will most definitely have a look!

Snow White inspired makeup tutorial! Red lipstick forever!

Hi my lovelies!

So I know it’s the middle of February and we’re nearing the end of winter, but I thought I’d share with you a wintery Snow White inspired make up look today!

20160220_12321720160220_123157.jpg

So we all know that Snow White is fair (me), but honestly anyone can pull off this look, it’s really simple and pared back, and doesn’t actually involve many products to achieve it! If there’s one thing I’ve found out, Snow White’s makeup is supposed to look like the no makeup-makeup look, but with a fab pop of ruby red lips! (Please take no notice of my hair on these photos, I had not styled it yet and just clipped it up to show off the makeup!)

Mani of the week: Ice-Cream inspired pastel Nails!

Hey everyone!

This post is a little late this week, partly because I loved last week’s nails so much that I kept the polish on for a little longer! The other reason is that I was way too excited about my first Look Incredible beauty box, so I wrote that post first! You can check out my thoughts on that one HERE for the blog post and HERE for the video!

I’m looking forward to spring, so this week’s nails were pastel and ice-cream inspired! I used a mix of mint green, lilac and cornflower blue polishes, and the end effect is really lovely!

Gorgeous glittery Ciate mani of the week!

Hi everyone, as you know, I’m a fanatic about great beauty products!

So I thought I’d share this week’s mani with all of you!

image

What I used:
1) Rimmel nail nurse base/top coat – I used this as a Base coat first, to strengthen my nails and help the Polish stay for longer.
2) Ciate Paint pot in Pocket Money. This is a gorgeous nudey-tone with a hint of pink for a great ‘your nails but better’ colour!
3) Ciate paint pot in Tinsel Town. A beautiful sparkly glitter polish with silver, pink tones and a hint of pastel green. I used this polish on alternating nails for a luxe and more high end look.
4) Rimmel nail nurse again, as a top coat for my nails. It not only helps the glitter polish stay for much longer without flaking off, it stops the polish from chipping for absolutely ages and gives a gorgeous sheen!

Hope you all enjoyed this little post, give it a like if you did – let me know what you think or any little tips and tricks in the comments!

Also if you have anything you want to see from me in the future, let me know! I’m open to suggestions!

See you soon my lovelies!
