A Look Back at my First Year of Blogging – 16 Things I Learned in 2016!

Hi my lovelies and happy new year! We made it to 2017!

I’ve had a little bit of a hiatus over the new year period, partly because I posted so much for Blogmas, partly because I needed a bit of time free from work, free from stress just to relax and spend time with my family and friends. But I’m back now, and I’m jumping in to 2017 with a fresh perspective and loads of blog ideas!

I was also a very spoiled girl at Christmas – let me know if you’d like to see a “What I Got For Christmas” post – And I hope every single one of you had a fantastic time over the festive period!

Can you believe I’ve had this blog for a whole year? It’s strange to think that over Christmas break last year I picked up my laptop and started to write, and I haven’t looked back since! I’m planning to do a giveaway for all my followers soon after I come back from my holidays (I go two weeks tomorrow for a fortnight’s Caribbean cruise, and I’m SO excited!) just to say thank you for sticking with me so far! Please vote below and let me know what you’d like to see in my giveaway – it is for you guys, after all!

I’ve learned so much over the last 12 months and found some great new friends (I hope) in the process – so let’s see what 2016 had in store for me and what I’ve realised a la Kylie Jenner in the last year! I’ve also interspersed some of my fave blog photos I’ve taken this year!

1.Always write about something you love – it’ll come more easily.

2. You’re not going to be popular straight away, it takes hard work and time.

3.There’s always opportunities to socialise! Go to events, chat on twitter, comment on other blogs – you might find a kindred spirit!

4.Blogger chats are great ways to make new friends and followers.

5.Taking time to create good content is better than putting up a half hearted, hastily written post

6.Photos are so important. #aesthetic.

7.Editing photos is equally important as taking photos. You don’t need a fantastic camera (90% of the time I’m in a rush and using my phone), they just need to be edited well.

8.Turn down offers if it’s something you don’t support/use/write about. I’ve turned down free products, affiliates, and sponsored posts this year because it wasn’t something I could be passionate about.

9.If you’re in it for free stuff, good luck because it really doesn’t work that way. Brands aren’t going to be knocking down your door unless you have thousands of followers.

10.You’re occasionally going to get hate, and that’s okay.

11. You’re going to get a serious case of writers block at some point, and it’s a bitch.

12. Blogging costs money, especially for us Beauty Bloggers. Makeup is expensive, yo.

13.That being said, the expensive makeup isn’t necessarily the best.

14.You can’t be everything to everyone – just be yourself and people that like you will like you for you, not for some persona you present.

15.Have fun! If blogging becomes a chore, take a break and come back when you’re brimming with ideas and enthusiasm

16.Blogging is a massive learning curve, you’re not going to be amazing at it straight away, and that’s okay.

Thank you all again for sticking out 2016 with me, and I’m looking forward so much to 2017! If you’re new, welcome to the family, my lovelies! I’ll see you all very soon!

What are some things you’ve “realised” in 2016! Anything to share? Leave me a lovely comment!

As always, please let me know what you think in the comments and anything you want to see from my blog because I really love you guy’s input. Thank you guys for reading, and please don’t forget to give this post a big like and a share if you enjoyed it, and I’ll see you all very soon in the next post! Congrats on 1 year! My blog turns 3 this spring.

I’ve learned to turn down “sponsored” posts that don’t fit with my blog. I recently got one about posting about my favorite winter/snow activities. We don’t get snow in Florida so I had to turn that down. 😂

Congrats on your one year anniversary!
Your list is great. #8 and #9 are so important – don’t do anything unless you feel passionate about it and having a blog isn’t about getting free stuff.
Have you actually gotten hate on your blog?! Gosh!
    PS. Enjoy your cruise!
